Check Out August’s PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium Games

PlayStation Plus Premium Extra August 2022

August is Yakuza month if you’re a PlayStation Plus Extra or Premium Subscriber.

That’s not Sony’s official designation for the mid-monthly PlayStation Plus line-up, but with the “first” three Yakuza games joining the service, it’s hard to think of it as anything but. Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2 aren’t technically the first Yakuza games since the former is a prequel and the latter two are remakes, but these action-RPGs tell the story of on-off-on Yakuza Kazuma Kiryu in chronological order and they’re absolutely fantastic.

On the other hand, if fighting off bad guys, completing ridiculous side-quests and singing your heart out in a series of Karaoke mini-games isn’t your thing, there are few other titles on offer. Remember, you need to be a PlayStation Plus Extra or Premium subscriber to access these – if you’re on the base Essential tier, you won’t get them.

Here’s what’s on offer, including those aforementioned Yakuza games, all available from August 16th.

How many of those games are worth playing? All of them, in truth, though Monopoly and Uno are a niche interest. After the Yakuza games, asymmetric multiplayer murder-em-up Dead by Daylight should be your next stop, because it’s such a gruesome joy to dip into. Then, if you’re after a .. well, we won’t spoil the surprise, but take Bugsnax for a spin.

All these titles are available to Extra and Premium subscribers, on top of the already available Extra titles. It only remains to reveal the new PS3, PS2, PS1 and PSP titles that Premium subscribers will be getting, right?

Er, no. Unfortunately there are no new “classic” titles joining the service this month, unless Sony is planning on putting out a second announcement later this month. Unsurprisingly, PlayStation Blog’s comment section is filled with unhappy Premium subscribers, so we’ll have to see if Sony deliver next month.

For now, though, if you’ve never played the Yakuza series, you’ve no excuse not to dive right in. And don’t forget about Yakuza: Like a Dragon, either, which is available this month as a PlayStation Plus Essentials title.
