Puzzle Bobble Everybubble!, arriving next year, will add a four player co-op mode to the long-running puzzler.
And, on paper, that’s a fantastic idea. We’re huge fans of the series, having played Puzzle Bobble (or Bust-a-Move as it’s sometimes known) on multiple formats. We’ve even messed around with the many, many arcade knock-offs. So what could go wrong with Puzzle Bobble Everybubble! letting you share Puzzle Bobble with friends?
Hopefully, nothing. But, watching the trailer, it’s clear the players can “assist” other players by hurling their bubbles towards them (bubbles disappear when you make a similarly-coloured group of three or more). So, in the name of being helpful, you could wreck a combo that the other player has been working on. We can see Puzzle Bobble Everybubble!’s co-op mode being the cause of a few arguments.
Hopefully, it won’t destroy too many friendships when it arrives here next year – though if you really want to go all in, there’s also a competitive head-to-head mode. It’s a Nintendo Switch exclusive and was recently announced for a Japanese release, though ININ Games (also responsible for bringing the Egret II Mini over) are bringing it to the West.
The story mode will see you visiting the Rainbow Islands, a reference to another entry in the Puzzle Bobble/Bubble Bobble series. There’s no solid release date as yet, but you’ll be able to test your friendships when Puzzle Bobble Everybubble! arrives on Nintendo Switch some time in 2023.
