Back 4 Blood is back with a second expansion, Children of the Worm, landing at the end of this month.
The squad-based shooter, from the creators of Left 4 Dead, sees you taking on a range of monsters who, formerly human, have been mutated by a parasitic worm. The last expansion, Tunnels of Terror, wasn’t exactly story-heavy, but this second Back 4 Blood expansion, Children of the Worm, will feature its own tale.
Children of the Worm, which constitutes a full campaign, will see you taking on a new threat, assisted by “Prophet” Dan, a new playable cleaner who, prior to the actual apocalypse, had quite a few things to say about the end times. We’re curious what he has to say now that he’s been proven right, and whether he’s got any moustache-waxing tips.
On top of that, Children of the Worm will also feature eight new character skins, twelve weapons skins and more. Enemy wise there are four new enemies, though they could be variants on existing foes rather than brand new creatures. But if you’re a Back 4 Blood aficionado, we’ll sure you’ll appreciate the opportunity for a little more co-op carnage.
Story-wise, Turtle Rock Studio hasn’t revealed much, apart from the aforementioned new threat. Given the “Children of the Worm” title, we wouldn’t be surprised if there’s some kind of cult activity involved. Maybe a group has sprung up that reveres the infected and, given that you’re annihilating them, they’ll have a bone to pick with you.
