EA and Koei-Tecmo are Making a Hunting Game

Koei Tecmo Hunting Game

Fancy hunting your way through a fantasy version of feudal Japan? EA and Koei-Tecmo hope you do.

An as-yet-unnamed fantasy hunting game will be published as part of EA’s EA Originals range, created by Koei Tecmo Games, the company behind Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors. Specifically, it’s been created by Omega Force, who developed the excellent Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes.

According to Jeff Gamon, EA Partners’ General Manager, Omega Force has..

“..elevated the hunting genre to the next level, merging their proven talent for combat gameplay with unexpected and innovative mechanics. We can’t wait to introduce their groundbreaking new adventure to the world later this month.”

However, EA and Koei Tecmo have remained tight-lipped about what you’ll be hunting. Chances are you’ll be chasing down some fanciful creatures who have the power to hurt you right back instead of fleeing into the bushes; your quarry could even be Monster Hunter-sized.

Koei Tecmo has emphasised that the game will take place in a fantasy version of Feudal Japan so you’ll likely be dealing with supernatural creatures. That said, they’ll need to tread carefully as to what they let you kill. Sure, you might be able to fill a sack with Kitsune heads but we can’t see that going down particularly well with fans of Japanese folklore.

For now, we’ll have to wait to discover just what prey EA and Koei Tecmo will have us hunting. They have dubbed it “the next great hunting game”, so it has a lot to live up to.

Chris has been gaming since the days of the Acorn Electron, which was allegedly purchased to 'help him with his homework'. You can probably guess how well that went. He’ll tackle most genres – football titles aside – though he has a taste for games that that are post-apocalyptic, horror-oriented or thought provoking in nature.
