Wondering what difficulty you should play Return to Monkey Island on? Let us help you decide.
It’s been a long time coming, but finally – finally! – a new Monkey Island game is out in the world. Return to Monkey Island puts us back in control of legendary pirate Guybrush Threepwood, with a brand new adventure to engage in. But before you get started, Return to Monkey Island asks you to choose a difficulty option. And which one should you go for?
You have two options to choose from: Casual Mode and Hard Mode. Casual Mode is described as “all the story and all the fun but with casual puzzles for the busy on-the-go player. Hard Mode, on the other hand, is described as “more puzzles! Harder puzzles! The full monkey! For the pro-adventure gamer who wants it all”.
If you’ve played a Monkey Island game before, you should absolutely opt for Hard Mode. This is the full Monkey Island adventuring experience on par with earlier games from the series. Casual Mode, however, is likely to be a good starting place if you haven’t played a game in the series before, and if you’re not very familiar with adventure/point and click games as a whole.
However, even if you do choose Hard mode, there are hints available within the game. And, well, this is the internet, so if you do get stuck on a puzzle, you’re not going to have to look far to find a solution.
So: we recommend choosing Hard Mode in Return to Monkey Island, unless you’re an absolute newcomer to the genre. Whichever you choose though, you’re in for a swashbuckling time.
