How to Use Cheats in The Sims 4
Before you can get creative by using our selection of the best cheats in The Sims 4, you need to know how to activate them. Thankfully, whether you’re playing on PC or console, it’s very easy to do.
You’ll first need to bring up the cheat console box. On PC, press Control, Shift and C on your keyboard. On Xbox or PlayStation, press all four triggers/shoulder buttons at once. The box that comes up allows you to type in a cheat code, instantly enabling it in your game.
While some codes work as they are, some require cheat mode to be turned on first. And so, before inputting any code, we recommend first typing in testingcheats on into the console box to enable all to work.
It’s also worth bearing in mind that enabling cheats will disable progress towards achievements and trophies if they’re something you care about. We personally think unlimited money makes it worth it, but it’s your call!
The Best Cheats in The Sims 4
And here we are: those all-important, and ever-so-useful cheats that we think can completely change your Sims 4 experience. Give them all a go, and see what you think. Most importantly, just have fun with them!
Get unlimited money: Motherlode
Undoubtedly everyone’s favourite cheat in The Sims 4 is motherlode, providing an instant drop of $50,000 in your current household’s funds. You can use it again and again, essentially giving yourself unlimited money. Just think of all the stuff you can buy and the incredible house you can build! Gamechanger.
Make yours sims invincible: death.toggle true
You can stop your sims dying of old age simply by heading into the options if you like. But that still leaves them open to accidents, like fires. If you want your sims to truly live forever, where they’re completely untouchable, use cheat code death.toggle true. Voila: they’ll never die!
If you want to turn the cheat back off, it’s easily reversed. Just used death.toggle false instead.
Build absolutely anywhere: bb.enablefreebuild
Want to edit some public and locked buildings? You can with bb.enablefreebuild. This is one of the best cheats in The Sims 4 if building and designing is your favourite part of the game. You can use this cheat to, for example, edit dorm buildings in The Sims 4 University expansion. Adapt them for your Sims’ needs, or simply allow your creativity to shine.
Instantly unlock everything: bb.ignoregameplayunlocksentitlement
Some items in The Sims 4 are locked behind various goals, like reaching certain career goals. But if you don’t feel like waiting, using cheat code bb.ignoregameplayunlocksentitlement instantly unlocks anything that’s behind a gameplay goalpost. Because who wants to actually achieve something if we can just get it instantly?
Max out a sims’ skill level: stats.set_skill_level
Increasing your sims’ stats can be hard work if you do it the traditional way. Who want to practice that much cooking, or do that much reading? Naturally, there’s a cheat available to you! Inputting, for example, stats.set_skill_level Major_Logic 10 will max out a sims’ logic skill.
You can of course replace Major_Logic with any other skill to max those out, too. For example, Major_Charisma 10 will max out charisma, while Major_Piano 10 will max out piano skill.
Get a free promotion: careers.promote
Who doesn’t want to be promoted in their job? While most of us have to work hard for such a thing, your sims can simply cheat to get there. Typing in careers.promote followed by a career path will net your current sim a free upgrade. For example, type in careers.promote Athletic for a promotion in the athlete path.
Make your household instantly happy: sims.fill_all_commodities
Fed up of your household needing to pee, shower, be entertained and rest? This is one of the best cheats in The Sims 4 if you want to make everyone instantly satisfied. Typing in sims.fill_all_commodities will instantly fill everyone’s needs bars into the green.
Become a ghost… for a while: sims.add_buff Ghostly
While this cheat isn’t exactly useful or game-changing, it is a lot of fun. Typing in sims.add_buff Ghostly into your cheat console box turns your current sim into a ghost for a few hours. Have some fun with your friends and go around spooking them. They’ll never suspect!
Give your sims any trait you want: traits.equip_trait
When creating a new sim, you can give them a handful of traits, like Carefree, which means they never get stressed, or Dastardly, which makes them successfully mean. You might want to change those traits by adding new ones, and thankfully you can with cheat traits.equip_trait. Simply add the name of the trait to the end (with no spaces), like traits.equip_trait EssenceOfFlavor, which will give you the Essence of Flavor trait.
Bag yourself a free house: FreeRealEstate on
Want to make every lot in your game completely free? Inputting FreeRealEstate on does just that. No longer is that fancy mansion out of reach: it’s now free! Of course, you could just use motherlode, but this saves you the hassle of having to load money into your bank account then move into a new lot.
