Are you wondering if you can save Jeff and Marie from a grizzly end at the beginning of The Devil in Me? Here’s what you need to know.
When The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me begins, we’re treated to a scene from the past. It takes all the way back to the 1800s, to the real ‘Murder Castle’ belonging to H. H. Holmes. There, we’re introduced to newlywed couple Jeff and Marie. They’re on their honeymoon, you see, and the poor things have chosen The World’s Fair Hotel as their destination. Oh no. You know what’s coming to them, but the question is: can you save Jeff and Marie in The Devil in Me?
We’ve got bad news. There’s no way to save Jeff and Marie. As lovely as this 19th century couple seem, they’re destined to die. The whole point of the opening is to set the scene for H. H. Holmes as a murderer, and that means we need to watch him kill Jeff and Marie. Try as you might, they simply cannot escape from the Murder Castle.
There are a few choices you can make, however. It seems Jeff and Marie have two different ways to die each. With Jeff, you can either fail a quick-time event, ending up in a pit of spikes, or you can proceed and end up being gassed by Holmes. For Marie, she’ll always die directly at the hand of Holmes in the bathroom, but the precise way depends on one choice you make.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. This pair of lovebirds is destined for a grizzly end no matter what you do. RIP, Jeff and Marie.
