Less than two months after releasing on Switch and PC, Return to Monkey Island is coming to Xbox Series X/S and PS5.
This is great news for console players. The long (looooong) awaited next entry into the much-loved Monkey Island franchise went down a treat when it released on Switch and PC in September. But for PlayStation and Xbox gamers, it was a bit of a kick in the piratey teeth to be left out in the cold. Thankfully, it’s a cold that hasn’t lasted too long. It’ll be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S as soon as next Tuesday, 8th November.
Better yet, if you’re an Xbox Game Pass subscriber, you’ll be able to play Return to Monkey Island at no extra cost.
There’s no word on a PS4 or Xbox One release, unfortunately. We can’t imagine it’s a technical limitation holding back the release – the game run wonderfully on Switch. It’s likely a time/resource issue. And also the fact that as more and more people adopt the latest generation, developing for last gen has diminishing returns.
We reviewed Return to Monkey Island on Switch, scoring it a “great” 8/10. Here’s what we had to say:
“It’s been a long time coming, but Return to Monkey Island is an absolute treat for fans of the series. It looks wonderful, it sounds wonderful, and its combination of excellent puzzles and expert writing will keep you transfixed from start to finish. Our only real complaint is that newcomers may find this a difficult starting point – but that’s easily rectified by jumping into the originals.”
So. Return to Monkey Island, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S (+ Game Pass) on 8th November. Be there or be square. Like Guybrush Threepwood’s head.
