Sherlock Holmes The Awakened, which sees the titular detective crossing swords with Cthulu-worshippers, has a gameplay trailer.
If the title sounds familiar, it’s because it’s a remake of a 2007 game of the same name. But Frogwares, who also developed the original, are treating Sherlock Holmes The Awakened as a completely new game, hence the trailer.
You can also view it as a stop-gap of sorts between the superb Sherlock Holmes Chapter One and, well, Chapter Two. That doesn’t mean Chapter Two is round the corner because Frogwares, being based in and around the Ukraine, are dealing with Russia’s ongoing invasion.
Some Frogwares staffers have even gone to fight, though there were a few raised eyebrows when, as part of The Awakened’s successful Kickstarter, Frogwares offered to have messages written on bombs. Suspect as this seems, Sherlock Holmes The Awakened is well and truly under development and you can now feast your eyes on the first gameplay trailer.
The trailer, which looks suitably gloomy, sees the world-famous detective roaming bayous, caverns and more. There a glimpse of what we take to be the game’s insanity-style effects, as Sherlock struggles to cope with what’s going on around him. The original Sherlock Holmes, as written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, never encountered anything supernatural so we’re eager to see how well the game pulls this off.
Sherlock Holmes The Awakened is set for an early 2023 release, though we suspect – and hope – it’ll find its way to consoles.
