The Callisto Protocol Has a Gruesome Live-Action Trailer

The Callisto Protocol Live Action Trailer

With The Callisto Protocol just a week away from release, publisher Krafton has released a live-action trailer.

We’re a little disappointed that Gwendolyn Christie doesn’t put in an appearance, given that she’s featuring in the game’s prequel podcast. But actor Josh Dumanel, who plays Jacob Lee, the protagonist of The Callisto Protocol, is on hand to bring his role to life.

Granted, this space-based survival horror does feature motion capture characters but there’s just something about seeing the game’s prison moon in live action. Maybe we’ve been fooled, but it looks as if, at the very least, the short involved a physical set. Some of of the longer shots seem green-screened, but it’s still reasonably convincing.

The short trailer doesn’t delve into the story so much. It’s really just there to set the scene and underline that Jacob Lee is in a lot of trouble. One scene sees Lee is standing on the surface of Callisto with eight or so biophages closing in. We don’t get to see what happens next, but that seems like awful of foes to handle so we’re a little concerned that the game will feature those odds. Still, Jacob can handle it.. right?

You can watch the trailer above. It’s not as gruesome as its “Red Band” title implies, but you probably shouldn’t watch it at work. The game itself arrives this December 2nd on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC (via the Steam Store or Epic Games Store).

Weekend Editor // Chris has been gaming since the days of the Acorn Electron, which was allegedly purchased to 'help him with his homework'. You can probably guess how well that went. He’ll tackle most genres – football titles aside – though he has a taste for games that that are post-apocalyptic, horror-oriented or thought provoking in nature.
