Are you ready to face a horde of nude giants? You’ve got till next year to prepare yourself which is when Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable arrives.
Are we going to play this jet-assisted VR hack-em-up, based on the Attack on Titan anime and manga? Yes. Are we going to be scared out of our wits playing it? Probably. Because as much as we loved the Attack on Titan games (read our review of the latest) there was a degree of distance there.
Sure, we were fighting man-eating mega-humans, but it was all in third person. Attack on Titan VR Unbreakable, revealed at last night’s UploadVR showcase, promises to put you right into the action. So instead of watching your on-screen avatar chop a titan in the neck, you’ll be the one staring them in the face.
Brown trouser nightmares aside, developer Univrs Ltd. hasn’t shown the game in action. The developer has confirmed it’ll feature ODM gear, the jet-powered equipment that allows the show’s heroes to take on titans. Killing a titan is, with the odd exception, a matter of getting behind it and hacking out the nape of its neck.
However, Univrs will have to be careful with that, since actually soaring through the air in first person could be stomach-churning. Try playing Grand Theft Auto V in first person, then leaping over a wall – it’s definitely a little disorienting. It may well be that the developer will tone down the show’s dramatic acrobatics.
You can check out the teaser trailer above and visit the (currently quite sparse) Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable website. The game will land on Meta Quest 2 in the Summer of 2023.
