Bubble Bubble, the bubble-popping platform classic that spawned multiple spin-offs and sequels, hits Nintendo Switch tomorrow.
If you’ve never played Bubble Bobble in any of its forms, you’ve missed out a simple yet hugely addictive game. You play one – or two – bubble-breathing dragons and have to co clear level after level of monsters.
How many levels? There a massive 100 levels to clear though, we’re ashamed to admit, we never got close to seeing the end of the game. But we had a whale of a time trapping monsters in bubbles then popping them and turning them into prizes. At least, we did when things went well.
Bubble Bobble’s twist is that if you don’t pop the trapped monsters in time, they come at you in a frenzy. It came to multiple platforms and spawned both the Rainbow Islands and Bust-a-Move/Puzzle Bobble games. And now it’s coming to Nintendo Switch.
It’s already out on PlayStation 4 but tomorrow, December 29th, it hits the Switch as an Arcade Archives title, supporting one or two players. Following hot on the heels of Tetris the Grand Master, it’ll be priced at $7.99 from the Nintendo eShop.
It’s well worth picking up, though we’ve still got our fingers crossed for a complete collection of pre-2000s Bubble Bobble games, Parasol Stars included. If it’s good enough for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, it’s good enough for Bub and Bob.
