Alienation 2-min

Twin-stick isometric shooter Alienation is an absolute blast, but to be truly enjoyed it needs to be played in co-op. Up to four players can work together to combat alien hordes while displaying their slick reloading skills and picking up sweet loot. You’ll be glad for the company too, as Alienation can get very challenging in its later stages.

2. LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham

If there’s one thing you can be sure of when booting up any LEGO game, it’s that it’s going to be better when played in co-op. LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham is no different. It’s fun taking control of Batman and co. when you’re playing alone, but get a friend or family member in on the act and it becomes much more entertaining. With a co-op buddy in tow you can more effectively take down enemies and solve puzzles. And you don’t have to change characters as much, which can be a bit of a pain in single-player.

Is LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham the best LEGO game? No. But it’s jolly good fun, especially with a friend, and that makes it one of the best couch co-op games available on PS Plus Extra.

3. Overcooked! 2

Overcooked! 2

Bigger and better than its predecessor, Overcooked! 2 is easily one of the best couch co-op games available right now. And PS Plus extra serves it up for you at no additional cost.

Bright, colourful, and so much fun, if you like couch co-op games are subscribe to PS Plus Extra, you simply must play Overcooked! 2.

4. Resogun

Top 10 Couch Co-op Games for PS4

Resogun offers classic side-scrolling shooter action with a bit of micro-management thrown in for good measure. And playable in local co-op, the experience is transformed into something even better.

With two players sharing the same screen, you have to co-ordinate with each other if you want to survive, and even more so if you want to save all the humans. Regardless, this is an absolute blast to play, and you’ll waste hours trying to chase those high scores whilst saving your little green friends. If you’re after the best couch co-op games on PS Plus Extra, seriously consider playing Resogun.

5. Moving Out

Moving house in real-life is stressful, but Moving Out tries to make light of the whole affair – and succeeds valiantly. Designed to be played in co-op, Moving Out asks you and up to three others to take items out of various properties and load them up into a van, ready to move out. Though there are, of course, various complications. Some items require multiple people to carry, for example, and some properties are haunted. You’ll need to act fast, too, if you want to get the best ratings. And you can return to jobs to complete bonus objectives.

The best thing about Moving Out is how reckless you can be. Why carefully carry a bed through a house when you can just lob it out of a window? It’s silly, it’s stupid, but more importantly it’s fun, and it’s included in PS Plus Extra for your couch co-op pleasure.

6. Tetris Effect Connected

Tetris? As a couch co-op game? Oh yes! This is 2022 after all, and the classic block-falling puzzle game has undergone quite the transformation. Tetris Effect Connected is perhaps the best Tetris game there is – and thanks to its multiplayer and co-op modes, it’s also one of the best couch co-op games on PS Plus Extra.

You can go head to head if you prefer, but Tetris Effect‘s Connected mode tasks you and up to two others to work together in clearing a giant board. It’s a great spin on the classic game, and one of our favourite things to play with friends.

7. The LEGO Movie Videogame

LEGO Batman 3 isn’t the only LEGO game on PS Plus Extra – it’s joined by The LEGO Movie Videogame. One of the shortest LEGO games there is, but also one of the best, this retells the story of the blockbuster movie from 2014. Taking control of Emmet and friends, you’ll set out on an adventure to take down Lord Business, and engage in plenty of hijinks along the way.

You’ll find the usual brick-busting action here, with plenty of collectibles to find and secrets to unlock. And with a friend by your side, it’s more enjoyable than ever. If you have a PlayStation Plus Extra membership and you’re looking for something fun to play with a friend, don’t overlook The LEGO Movie Videogame.

8. Trine 4

A knight, a rogue and a wizard set out on a journey – no, it’s not the start of a dad joke; it’s the basis of Trine, a series of platform-puzzle games. The latest, Trine 4, is undoubtedly the best of the bunch, and while it can be played in single player, it’s a game that’s been built with co-op play in mind.

Trine 4 has you travelling through gorgeous 2.5D environments, solving puzzles to progress. You’ll be moving boxes, shooting targets, swinging across gaps and manipulating the environment in numerous ways in order to solve whatever puzzle is at hand. Playing in couch co-op, the ways to solve puzzles in Trine 4 multiply, and working together as a team rarely feels as rewarding as it does here.

9. Darksiders Genesis

Darksiders Genesis 2 (1)

It may look like Diablo, but Darksiders Genesis is actually a Darksiders game through and through, albeit one you can play in local co-op. Mission-based, you can set up a local co-op game via the game’s hub, in which you can also chat with series stalwart Vulgrim and purchase upgrades. When playing in local co-op, one player takes control of War and the other Strife – you can argue who takes control of who. In any case, you’ll have to work together, making efficient use of each character’s unique skills if you wish to proceed.

With its enjoyable combat and plenty of replayability, Darksiders Genesis is definitely one of the best couch co-op games available on PlayStation Plus Extra.

10. LittleBigPlanet 3

LittleBigPlanet-1

Sackboy is something of a staple when it comes to PlayStation’s best platforming experiences. If you’ve played any iteration of LittleBigPlanet before, you’ll instantly be familiar with LittleBigPlanet 3. Though this time he has a host of sacky friends with him, each adding a little something extra to the gameplay. And as usual, this side-scrolling platformer can be enjoyed in single player or in local co-op.

With a friend or family member by your side, you’re bound to have more fun bouncing, running and jumping your way around each of the beautifully designed levels. The fun doesn’t have to end, either, as there are many user-created levels that you can download and play.
