Here’s January’s First Wave of Xbox Game Pass Games

Xbox Game Pass January 2022 Wave 1

Microsoft has revealed January’s first wave of Xbox Game Pass titles and there’s.. just three?

Yes, there are only three Xbox Game Pass games included in this January’s initial offerings, but that’s almost certainly due to the holidays. December’s line-up was, at first glance, a bit meatier but we only got one wave of titles that month.

This month, however, you can expect there to be a second wave of titles, so it should hopefully end up being a good month for Game Pass. We know for certain that Age Of Empires 2: Definitive Edition and Inkulinati are both coming to Xbox Game Pass.

So what’s on offer so far? The following three titles are arriving on Game Pass, all on cloud, console and PC.

  • Persona 3 Portable (January 19th)
  • Persona 4 Golden (January 19th)
  • Monster Hunter Rise (January 20th)

All of these games have graced other platforms – Monster Hunter Rise, for example, began life on the Nintendo Switch, where it also received the Sunbreak expansion. However, they’re absolutely still worth your time.

Persona is a sumptuous JRPG series that sees you battling demons and has amassed a grand following. You can read our review of the latest entry, Persona 5, here.  Monster Hunter Rise, also coming to PlayStation, sees you going monster hunting. There’s no sign of the Sunbreak expansion but we’d expect it to arrive on Xbox (the main game is also coming to PlayStation) later this year.

You can download these games for “free”, provided you’ve got an active Xbox Game Pass, PC Game Pass or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription. However, while it’s not technically included in this first wave, survival game Stranded Deep also joined the service this month. Mortal Shell: Enhanced Edition also returned after being previously being removed.

Several games are leaving Game Pass at the end of the month, so it’s your last chance to play these titles:

  • Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc (Cloud, Console, and PC)
  • Nobody Saves The World (Cloud, Console, and PC)
  • Pupperazzi (Cloud, Console, and PC)
  • The Anacrusis (Game Preview) (Cloud, Console, and PC)
  • We Happy Few (Cloud, Console, and PC)
  • Windjammers 2 (Cloud, Console, and PC)
Weekend Editor // Chris has been gaming since the days of the Acorn Electron, which was allegedly purchased to 'help him with his homework'. You can probably guess how well that went. He’ll tackle most genres – football titles aside – though he has a taste for games that that are post-apocalyptic, horror-oriented or thought provoking in nature.
