Forspoken, the magic and parkour heavy action adventure, is out on PlayStation 5 and PC. But is it coming to Xbox?
Forspoken sees protagonist Frey hurled into a fantasy kingdom and bonded, to her initial displeasure, with a sentient magic cuff. You can experience the game on PlayStation 5 and, provided your machine’s got enough power, PC. But what about playing Forspoken on Xbox?
It’s not out on Xbox as, right now, it’s a PlayStation 5 timed exclusive. How long is it exclusive for? Sony and publisher Square Enix have yet to divulge that – it could be a year, or it could two years. It could be longer than that.
It’s not like The Last of Us which, as a first-party Sony title, will stay on PlayStation forever. One question is whether, when the exclusivity window is up, Square Enix will deem it profitable to publish on Xbox. Forspoken may, in fact, never see the light of day on Xbox.
Take Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy as an example. It was published on PlayStation 4 then, a year later, arrived on Xbox. On the other hand, Supermassive Games’ Until Dawn was released on PlayStation 4 in 2015 and has never made the leap to Xbox.
If it does get an Xbox release, it’ll be on Xbox Series X|S which, like the PlayStation 5, should have the power to run it. But ultimately, if you’re expecting Forspoken to come to Xbox, we’d expect it to be at least a couple of years before that happens, if ever.
