Thanks to HBO’s The Last of Us Show, Sales of the Game Have More than Tripled

The Last of Us HBO Show

Sales of The Last of Us Part 1 have skyrocketed and it’s all thanks to the HBO show.

It’s only the second episode of HBO’s The Last of Us show and, as reported by Games Industry.Biz, The Last of Us Part I, the PS5 remake of game it’s based on, is doing ridiculously well. The game has seen a 238% boost in sales and, given that the game’s RRP is £69.99/$69.99, Sony and Naughty Dog must be very happy.

If you’ve missed the series, which is currently on HBO and Sky, it features Pedro Pascal as smuggler Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie, the girl he’s tasked with escorting. The series expands on some features of the game, and tweaks a few others so it’s worth watching, even if you’ve played the game.

What’s particularly interesting about this news is that several people, ourselves included, felt that Sony was missing a trick. Why not, at the very least, discount the other The Last of Us games? You know, the PS4 version and its sequel, The Last of Us Part II. But, going by these figures, a sale was largely unnecessary.

There’s no news on a The Last of Us Part III, or whether the HBO show will get a second series. The first game hits the PC in June and we’d also expect the show to arrive on Blu-Ray at some point. In the US, you can watch it on HBO at 9:00PM EST every Sunday. In the UK, it’s on Sky Atlantic every Monday at 2:00AM GMT or 9:00PM GMT.
