A launch title for the PS4 in 2014, it’s a tragedy that Like a Dragon: Ishin! was never localised for the west.
A spin-off of the Yakuza series, Like a Dragon: Ishin! finds Kazuma… sorry, Sakamoto Ryoma, fighting for revenge in 19th century Japan after his adoptive father is killed. Despite the dramatic change in setting, however, it remains a Yakuza game through and through. There are even four fighting styles: Swordsman, Gunslinger, Brawler and Wild Dancer. But no longer do we need to lament not being able to fully enjoy it in the west, as the upcoming remake is now less than a month away.
It might be a bit confusing, dropping the Yakuza name in favour of Like a Dragon, but that’s how things go. In any case, Yakuza fans really ought to be excited for Ishin!. It promises a dramatic story, filled with twists, turns and plenty of action, as well as the usual Yakuza charm. And yes, of course there’ll be side activities to distract yourself with.
With marketing for the game ramping up before its release, the latest trailer for Like a Dragon: Ishin!, titled Blade of Vengeance, delves into its story, giving viewers a taste of what lies in store for them. It’s an exciting watch, and just makes us more eager to get our hands on the title. Thankfully there’s not long left now: Like a Dragon: Ishin! launches 21st February on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Pre-order digitally and you even get four days early access, as well as three bonus weapons. So, what are you waiting for?
