Warhammer 40K: Darktide’s Xbox Version Has Been Delayed

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide

In response to user feedback, developer Fatshark has delayed Warhammer 40K: Darktide’s Xbox release, as well as all seasonal content.

This is response to feedback from players who are less than happy with Warhammer 40K: Darktide’s current state. The first-person co-op shooter (think Left 4 Dead meets 40K) launched on PC last November. However, it’s received a battering on Steam and, largely in response to that reception, Fatshark have issued the following statement:

“We take enormous pride in our ability at Fatshark to deliver a game that millions can enjoy. This is what we set out to do with Warhammer 40,000: Darktide – to create a highly engaging and stable game with a level of depth that keeps you playing for weeks, not hours. We fell short of meeting those expectations.”

The statement goes on to say that they’ll be delivering a complete crafting system and a more rewarding progression loop. It also explains they’ll be postponing both the Xbox Series X|S launch of the game and that they’ll be putting any season content aside till the matter is sorted.

Steam review bombing is nothing new and it’s true that a lot of the reviews absolutely ooze venom. But there are some more reasonable ones, where players report having technical issues with the game and calling it out on a lack of depth.

The general sentiment seems to be that, in its current form, Warhammer 40K: Darktide still feels like an Early Access game. It’s not just Steam, either – Fatshark’s own forums also feature a significant measure of discontent. That, in turn, has led to Fatshark’s statement/open letter, which you can read below.

So, Darktide won’t be coming to the Xbox Series X|S just yet. This isn’t Fatshark’s first rodeo, by any means. Amongst other games, they’re responsible for Warhammer: Vermintide and its sequel, the latter of which we absolutely loved. Let’s hope they can get Darktide to place where it’s as well received as its ratman-battling forbears.
