Wondering what difficulty you should play Tortuga – A Pirate’s Tale on? Here’s what you need to know.
Letting you loose on the Caribbean seas with your own pirate fleet, Tortuga – A Pirate’s Tale gives you the chance to experience the true life of a pirate. You’ll engage in battle, trade in town, barter in the bar and sail around the crystal blue oceans at will. But before you get started on your new pirate life, you have one key decision to make in Tortuga – A Pirate’s Tale: the difficulty level.
There are three difficulty levels to choose from in Tortuga – A Pirate’s Tale: Regular, Hard and Very Hard. Unfortunately, the game gives no indication of what those difficulties affect. But having spent some time with the game, we have a good idea.
Changing the difficulty of your game will affect how difficult combat is, and how easy or hard it is to get certain necessary supplies. The ease of gaining new crew members will also be affected, and we imagine that tasks like boarding opposing ships to take them into your fleet will be made harder on high difficulties too.
Regular is, of course, the easiest of the three difficulties. Sorry for those of you looking for an easy ride: there’s no ‘Easy’ difficulty. So if you’re new to the game or to the genre in general, we’d suggest you opt for Regular.
We can’t say for sure the differences between Hard or Very Hard, except the obvious. Hard difficulty will prove to be challenging, while Very Hard will be the toughest yet. We wouldn’t recommend jumping into Very Hard difficulty unless you’re already familiar with the game.
After all, even on its easiest difficulty, Tortuga – A Pirate’s Tale can be challenging from the outset. There’s a lot to learn, and succumbing to enemies in battle is all too easy if you’re not prepared. So we recommend playing on Regular until you’re familiar. And once you’re sure you have what it takes to be a mighty pirate, opt for a higher difficulty.
