Remember Cosmic Smash? No? We don’t blame you. But it’s being resurrected for the PSVR2 as C-Smash VRS.
C-Smash VRS is essentially a VR version of Cosmic Smash, which began life on the Naomi. The Naomi was Sega’s arcade system which featured titles like Capcom vs SNK 2, Ikaruga and more. Several of these games made their way to the Dreamcast, and Cosmic Smash was one of them.
Half badminton, half Tron, it’ll feature co-op, solo and versus play. And, instead of looking at the backside of some transparent character, you’ll be viewing the action through your own eyes. It’s set to be a PlayStation VR2 exclusive, so you’ll require a PS5 and Sony’s rather pricey PSVR2 headset. But we definitely can see this becoming a fun diversion.
C-Smash VRS is being developed by Wolf & Wood and published by RapidEyeMovers. Though, sadly, the game doesn’t seem to make use of PSVR2’s eye tracking. Shame, with a name like that we’d have thought it was a shoe-in. Wolf & Wood are also developing the very promising The Last Worker, which we went hands on with last year.
Sega doesn’t seem to be involved, though it’s not like they ever showed any interest in re-releasing it. You can check out the teaser trailer above for a brief taste of what’s on offer and get your hands on it later this year.
