Darkest Dungeon II Exits Early Access This May

Darkest Dungeon II

Darkest Dungeon II, sequel to the original turn-based RPG, is opening its doors this May.

Sure, those who’ve already paid for Darkest Dungeon II’s Epic Games Store Early Access incarnation may already have a clue as to what’s behind them. But this May sees the game’s official full release.

We’re certainly looking forward to tackling this 2D dungeon crawler. We awarded the original an outstanding 9 out of 10, adding that you shouldn’t “…get too attached to any of your awesome warriors.” Yes, the original wasn’t particularly kind to your fighters and you can expect this sequel to follow suit.

Darkest Dungeon II will, like its predcessor, have a strong roguelike element, with runs that can last from half an hour to several hours. It’s been in Epic Games Store Early Access since 2021 with developer Red Hook Studios regular adding more content.

You can get a taste for the game’s decaying world, thanks to a Steam Next Fest demo, available now and also featured on the Epic Games Store. The demo will let you explore one full region, with four playable heroes. The final release will feature twelve heroes, who will probably lose their minds and die horribly, multiple times. No, we’re not being mean, that’s just the way that Darkest Dungeon’s cookie crumbles.

Darkest Dungeon II arrives on PC, via Steam and Epic Games Store, this May 8th. And, based on the previous game, a console release may well be on the cards.

Weekend Editor // Chris has been gaming since the days of the Acorn Electron, which was allegedly purchased to 'help him with his homework'. You can probably guess how well that went. He’ll tackle most genres – football titles aside – though he has a taste for games that that are post-apocalyptic, horror-oriented or thought provoking in nature.
