Elden Ring is Getting an Expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree

Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

Have you spent hour after hour playing Elden Ring? An upcoming expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree will plunge you right back into its ailing world.

Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree has just been announced by developer From Software. According to the studio, the expansion will offer “new adventures in the Lands Between” so, unlike the free Colosseum DLC, there’ll be some single-player shenanigans on offer.

Also, again unlike the Colosseum DLC, you can expect it to be paid content. Does that bother us? Not at all. We awarded this open-world hack-em-up a massive 10 out of 10 so we’d happily fork out for more.

What we don’t yet know is how the content will slot into the existing Elden Ring world. Will it transport you to a new area, locking you in until you’ve defeated the boss? Or, more likely, will it add a handful of new realms to the existing map? You can count on there being a handful of horrible traps, at least. We’ve not quite forgiven From for those massive sentient stone balls.

There’s certainly nothing about Elden Ring that screams unfinished, at least not now the Colosseums are active. From Software has put out DLC for some of its other games but this is much more open than any of those offerings.

We’ll have to wait to find out more. All From Software has revealed so far is the expansion’s name, Shadow of the Erdtree, and the fact it’s in development. We expect them to disclose more about this Elden Ring expansion later this year.

Let’s just hope George R.R. Martin isn’t involved this time: we’d like to get the next Game of Thrones book before the sun turns into a cold, hard rock.

Chris has been gaming since the days of the Acorn Electron, which was allegedly purchased to 'help him with his homework'. You can probably guess how well that went. He’ll tackle most genres – football titles aside – though he has a taste for games that that are post-apocalyptic, horror-oriented or thought provoking in nature.
