The Mageseeker Turns League of Legends into a 2D Action RPG

The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story

Coming to console PC this spring, The Mageseeker: A League of Legends story sees your rogue mage out for vengeance.

The Mageseeker takes place in .. wait for it.. the League of Legends universe. If you’ve not tackled League of Legends, it’s an online battle arena game that’s got quite the following. It’s spawned an animated show, a virtual K-Pop group (we’re absolute not making this up) and more.

But The Mageseeker definitely has our attention, for a few reasons. Firstly, while we’ve only seen a little footage of the game, we’re suckers for a good vengeance story. And protagonist Sylas, “an escaped mage whose quest for vengeance will shatter Demacia’s deceptive peace,” seems like a fun and comedicly grimdark protagonist.

Besides which, we’re curious to see how much agency the game gives you. Sylas’s mission is basically to overthrow the world, but unless it takes place years before the current LoL timeline he’s not going to accomplish his goal. Sounds like a personal revelation and/or tragic act of self-sacrifice could be on the cards.

It’s being developed by Digital Sun, creators of Moonlighter, a game we absolutely adored. Though there’ll be more punching and bloodshed in The Mageseeker than there ever was in that game.

The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story is set for a PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|and Nintendo Switch this Spring.

Weekend Editor // Chris has been gaming since the days of the Acorn Electron, which was allegedly purchased to 'help him with his homework'. You can probably guess how well that went. He’ll tackle most genres – football titles aside – though he has a taste for games that that are post-apocalyptic, horror-oriented or thought provoking in nature.
