This New Stellar Shift Xbox Controller is The Colour Out of Space

Xbox Controller Stellar Shift

Want an eye-catching new Xbox controller? Microsoft have just launched a new “Stellar Shift” model.

As Xbox controllers go, this new Stellar Shift design is undeniably gorgeous. Microsoft describe it as, “..a striking color shifting blue-purple shimmer that gives it a mesmerizing feeling of deep space vibes”. And yes, that’s a pretty poetic way to describe it.

However, it’s also giving us big The Colour Out of Space vibes. You know, that movie (based on a Lovecraft story) where an otherworldly meteor gave Nicholas Cage a really bad day. As fantastic as the controller looks, we’re not sure we want to risk our Xbox Series X becoming a pulsing mass of metal and flesh.

The good(ish) news is that if you’re prepared to take that risk, this Xbox Stellar Shift controller is available now. It’s wireless, like all of Microsoft’s pads and works with the Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, the Xbox One X and PC.

As far as tech specs go, it’s functionally identical to other current Special Edition Xbox controllers. So it has textured grips, a headphone socket and Bluetooth. We’re particularly grateful for the latter – we can still remember having to mess around with Xbox PC dongles.

You can read more about the controller and order it here in the US and here in the UK. It’s priced at $69.99 and £59.99 respectively.

Chris has been gaming since the days of the Acorn Electron, which was allegedly purchased to 'help him with his homework'. You can probably guess how well that went. He’ll tackle most genres – football titles aside – though he has a taste for games that that are post-apocalyptic, horror-oriented or thought provoking in nature.
