Sonic Frontiers’ Sights, Sounds and Speed Update Arrives This Thursday

Sonic Frontiers review

Sonic Frontiers’ first free update is nearly here, as revealed by Sega’s newsletter.

As spotted (and confirmed) by some Redditors who received the newsletter, Sonic Frontiers’ new update arrives this Thursday. It’s dubbed the Sights, Sound and Speed update but the newsletter doesn’t reveal more than that.

However, going by Sega’s roadmap, we can guess what it’ll be adding to the game. If this is, genuinely “Update 1”, it’ll add a juke box, a photo mode and new challenge modes. Will that be enough to get us playing? We’ll definitely be taking a look, that’s for sure.

However, as we noted in our review, Sonic Frontiers has a fair few flaws. “There needs to be a better focus on polish and balancing,” we remarked, awarding it a 6 out of 10. Hopefully this update also includes some of that attention.

Sega does consider the game a success, so while it’s far from perfect it’s still managed to get a sizable audience. It sold over 2.5 million copies in just under a month so you can bet it’s going to get a sequel. Though we’re still secretly hoping that Sonic Mania 2 is actively in development and Sega just hasn’t told us about it.

The update arrives this March 23rd and should simultaneously hit PlayStation, Xbox, PC and Switch.

Weekend Editor // Chris has been gaming since the days of the Acorn Electron, which was allegedly purchased to 'help him with his homework'. You can probably guess how well that went. He’ll tackle most genres – football titles aside – though he has a taste for games that that are post-apocalyptic, horror-oriented or thought provoking in nature.
