Sifu was a brilliant game when it launched. And since then it’s only got better.
Free updates have added much to the game, such as gameplay modifiers and even difficulty modes. But the next update for Sifu is going to be the best one yet, adding a new mode that could have been a separate game. The Arenas Expansion really is big.
While the new Arenas mode is meant to be played after you’ve completed Sifu‘s story, you can jump into it any time after you’ve completed the game’s dramatic tutorial. Just select Arenas mode from the main menu, and you’re ready to go. If you’re not familiar with Sifu though, you might struggle, as the challenges it sends your way are tough from the outset.
Jump into Arenas mode and you’ll find that there are nine arenas in which to do battle, though to access all but the first you’re going to have to put some work in. Every arena has five challenges for you to complete, and your performance in each will be measured in various ways. You might need to set a high score while beating multiple waves of enemies, for example, try and remain as young as possible, or hunt down and kill a particular foe as fast as possible. Perform well and you’ll smash all targets, gaining you the tokens that are required to unlock new arenas.
Of course, the further you progress in Arenas mode, the tougher things will get. Most challenges have you fighting with a range of modifiers active, and while sometimes they’ll help you in various ways, they’ll mostly be to your detriment. In any case, they keep the action fresh, with you not only having to adapt your strategy depending on the enemies you face, but also the modifiers in action.
