This April, Cassette Beasts Brings its Tape-Powered Battling to Game Pass

Cassette Beasts

Cassette Beasts, a RPG monster battler that sees you powering up via your cassette player, now has an April release date.

Drawing upon Pokémon and other monster-collecting games, Cassette Beasts has you roaming the world taking on enemies. But instead of whipping out an oversized sword or summoning a screen filling deity, you use the power of music to turn yourself and your allies into monsters.

On top of that, you can smash monsters together to make one fused monster. And if you come across a new beast, you can use a blank tape to capture their form. There’s no word as to whether there’s a mini game where you rewind a tape with a pencil but we have our fingers crossed.

The game is the work of Bytten Studio and it netted a publisher, Raw Fury, back in 2021. We’re hoping its as much fun as it looks and the good news is we won’t have to wait long to find out. The PC version, which is landing on Steam and PC Game Pass, comes out this April 26th.

Does that mean console players are getting left out? Not at all, though they’ll have to wait a little longer. It’s also coming to Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Game Pass and Switch this Spring.

In the meantime, you can check out the trailer above, and take its Steam demo for a spin. Just remember to rewind when you’re done with it.

Weekend Editor // Chris has been gaming since the days of the Acorn Electron, which was allegedly purchased to 'help him with his homework'. You can probably guess how well that went. He’ll tackle most genres – football titles aside – though he has a taste for games that that are post-apocalyptic, horror-oriented or thought provoking in nature.
