Resident Evil 4 Remake’s Latest Update Will Disappoint Speedrunners

Resident Evil 4 remake review body (1)

The Resident Evil 4 remake has a new update that speedrunners may be a little disappointed about.

The update, which is out now, fixes a game-breaking bug, that prevented players from finishing the game. Essentially, you could be playing Resident Evil 4 and end up without an item that was essential to make progress. That bug has been fixed and the patch also tweaks controller dead zones.

However, the most interesting fix is that you can no longer use the scope to warp through walls and doors. As you can see in this video, it’s possible to reach areas you’re not supposed to reach yet, or areas the game has blocked off. Several existing speed runs also make use of the glitch.

However, with this Resident Evil 4 update that’s now gone. Or is it? The good news is that the disc-based version of the game will have the old build, complete with the glitch. So speedrunners will still be able to execute their spooky scope magic.

Currently, speedrunners are completing Resident Evil 4 in under two hours, though they’re always trying to beat the existing record. We’re hoping to see it turn up at the next Games Done Quick, both as a glitched and glitchless run.

That’s not to say you have to rush things, it’s worth taking your time to enjoy Resident Evil 4. You can check out our review here to find out why. And you can pick the game up on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
