Rise of the Triad Ludicrous Edition

Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition is Getting a Gib-Filled Demo this June

Rise of the Triad is back and it’s coming to console and PC as Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition.

It’s a remaster of the original 1995 Rise of the Triad: Dark War, a ludicrous gore-filled 3D Realms shooter. There was a remake in 2013, but Nightdive Studios, handling the remaster alongside New Blood Interactive and Apogee Entertainment has gone back to the original.

The impending remaster was announced last year but Nightdive has now revealed the extent of its plans. We remember playing the shareware version of the original, milking every last giblet out of it. So we’re eager to see whether this remastered release, dubbed Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition, can recapture some of that magic.

Nightdive and New Blood aren’t just delivering a straight remaster, however. They’re going to be restoring some cut content. There’ll also be a level editor and much, much more – for example, you’ll be able to play the game with the 2013 remaster’s soundtrack. We’re definitely hoping that the level editor isn’t just a PC-exclusive. After playing Meet Your Maker we’re eager to unleash some more nightmares on our fellow players.

On top of that, there’ll be multiplayer and a Doom-style face that gets more beaten-up the more damage you take. So when can you get your hands on this retro mayhem? It was originally pencilled in for an early 2023 release but that didn’t happen.

There is, however, a PC demo arriving on Steam as part of Steam Next Fest which kicks off on June 19th. The game itself is arriving on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One in the “near future”.
