This Thursday’s State of Play Explores Final Fantasy XVI

State of Play Final Fantasy XVI

There’s a special State of Play taking place this Thursday, exploring the upcoming Final Fantasy XVI.

Final Fantasy XVI, arriving this June, is the latest single-player entry in Square Enix’s action-RPG fantasy. Yes, the company has sold a ludicrous number of studios and properties, but it’s held onto this one. And now it’s getting its own State of Play.

Aside from just showing the game in action, the State of Play will delve further into the game’s setting, offering a glimpse of the realm it takes place on. It may be a follow-up but it’s not a sequel in the sense that it takes place in the same universe.

Like other Final Fantasy games, it takes place in an entirely different world, though you can bet Materia will crop up somewhere. There’s also bound to be a Cid, or a Sid somewhere around as well. It takes place in the land of Valisthea, which is peaceful with no problems at all.

We’re kidding, of course. Some people, known as Dominants, can host powerful entities, “Eikons” inside them. They’re basically the game’s summons, but you can expect their existence to have a more profound impact on the story. That’s one of the story elements the State of Play will explore.

So how can you watch this Final Fantasy XVI State of Play stream? It’s set to take place this Thursday at April 13 at 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 11pm CEST. It’ll be streamed on the official PlayStation and YouTube channels though we’d also expect some of the footage to end up on Square’s channel too. As for the game itself, it’s set for a June 22nd release on PlayStation 5.

Weekend Editor // Chris has been gaming since the days of the Acorn Electron, which was allegedly purchased to 'help him with his homework'. You can probably guess how well that went. He’ll tackle most genres – football titles aside – though he has a taste for games that that are post-apocalyptic, horror-oriented or thought provoking in nature.
