Getting better loot is pivotal to progressing in Diablo 2: Resurrected, but many items you find will be unidentified when you pick them up.
An unidentified item is pretty much useless, offering you no real benefits until you’ve appraised it, revealing any prefixes and/or suffixes it has. Magical items might just offer one or two stat bonuses or perks, but Rare, Unique and Set items may have many. The question is, then, just how do you identify items in Diablo 2: Resurrected?
To identify items in Diablo 2: Resurrected, you have two options. The first is visiting Deckard Cain, who can be found at the centre of the town in each act. He’s not available right at the start of the game, though. To acquire his services, you need to rescue him in Tristram. This requires you to travel to the Dark Wood, retrieve the Scroll of Inifuss, and then get it translated by Akara. If you then travel to the Stony Field and find the Cairn Stones, you can use the Scroll of Inifuss in your inventory to reveal the order in which you should activate the stones to open up a portal to Tristram.
With Deckard Cain rescued, you can then talk to him in a town and select the Identify Items option to get him to identify all the items in your inventory at once. Just be aware that you’ll need to rescue Deckard Cain on each difficulty level and with each character you create to make his services available.
Alternatively, you can identify items in Diablo 2: Resurrected by using a Scroll of Identify. These can be purchased by certain vendors in each town, and you can even buy a tome to store up to twenty of them. To identify an item using a scroll, simply open up your inventory, hold the interact button over a Scroll or Tome of Identify, then select the item you wish to identify. It’s a little more cumbersome than talking to Deckard Cain, but at least it allows you to identify items while out killing demons and exploring.
