Midnight Suns’ Nintendo Switch Version Has Been Cancelled

Marvel's Midnight Suns

Marvel’s Midnight Suns, originally set for a Switch release, won’t be landing on Nintendo’s console.

The fate of Midnight Suns’ last-gen versions always seemed a little up in the air. After being delayed, again, this turn-based strategy game, was released in December of last year. But it only hit current-gen consoles and PC. The Xbox One, Switch and PlayStation 4 versions of Midnight Suns (or Marvel’s Midnight Suns to give it its full title) were left lacking a release window.

Now, 2K and Firaxis have confirmed that Midnight Suns, which is well worth waiting for, is hitting PS4 and Xbox One this May. However, the Nintendo Switch version has been cancelled. It’s “no longer planned” as 2K’s site update diplomatically puts it.

As for the PS4 and Xbox One versions, they launch this May 11th. That’s the same day that Blood Storm, the fourth piece of Midnight Suns DLC drops. As the title suggests, it sees you adding the X-Men’s Storm to your team of monster hunters.

We’re also hoping X-Men member Jubilee gets a look in since she, in the main Marvel universe, was actually a vampire. But we’ll have to wait till next week, when the DLC hits current and last gen versions of the game.

There’s no mention of a physical release so it may well be that the last-gen version is digital only.  So, if you’re an Xbox One or PlayStation 4 owner, May 11th is the date to put in your diary. And if you were looking forward to the Nintendo Switch version of Midnight Suns, you have our sympathies.

Weekend Editor // Chris has been gaming since the days of the Acorn Electron, which was allegedly purchased to 'help him with his homework'. You can probably guess how well that went. He’ll tackle most genres – football titles aside – though he has a taste for games that that are post-apocalyptic, horror-oriented or thought provoking in nature.
