Pac-Man 99

Pac-Man 99 is Going Offline This October

Want to take on 98 other Pac-Man players? You’ve got until October which is when the Nintendo Switch-exclusive Pac-Man 99 shuts down.

As announced by Nintendo, Pac-Man 99 will be unavailable to new players from October 2023 and all online functionality will cease. The game launched in April 2021 and while it’s lasted longer than some games (we’re looking at you, Babylon’s Fall and Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt) it’s still a shame.

We’ve dabbled in the game a few times and while we’ve never actually won, we really appreciated the frantic pace of the game. And knowing we were infuriating the odd human player or ten also made us chuckle.

So what happens now? Matters are complicated by the fact that the game also has paid offline DLC. Pac-Man 99 is currently offered free to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, but can also purchase an offline mode.

Anyone who’s purchased that mode, or the Deluxe Pack, will be able to play the game offline indefinitely. But the DLC itself will be made unavailable from September 8th. So if you want to experience the joy of battle royale ghost and pill eating, we’d recommend you dive in now.

But, come October 8th, poor-old Pac-Man 99 will be going offline for good. Still, at least, Tetris 99 is still around. That’s not jinxing things.. right? Right?
