Supplementing the existing nightmare offered by The Callisto Protocol, the game’s new Riot Mode will pit you against waves of enemies.
The new mode traps you in just a few rooms and launches biophages, The Callisto Protocol’s monsters, into your face. That might sound like a recipe for certain death, and it absolutely is. It’s also paid DLC so it’s up to you whether your impending doom is worth paying for.
The challenge is to survive as long as you can, before the monsters eat your face. You’re not entirely unequipped to deal with them, though. Aside from the usual weapons, Riot Mode adds Rampage, a special ability which, when charged, lets you annihilate enemies with a single hit and equips you with infinite ammo.
But it only lasts so long, then you’re back to being swamped by bad guys. Still, we’re a sucker for a good wave-based shooter. That’s not least because it’s something you can pick up and just play. And if you’ve played this Dead Space parallel, it could be a good reason to dive back in.
Riot Mode is part of the Riot Bundle and can also be had through the the Season Pass which also includes the Contagion Bundle. And if you’ve not played The Callisto Protocol (check out our review), it’s out now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. You can check out a trailer for Riot Mode on the official Striking Distance Studios YouTube channel.
