Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun’s new trailer is thoroughly ridiculous and has us excited for this over-the-top retro shooter.
Sure, Warhammer 40,000’s space marines are supposed to badass but this “boomer shooter” looks to be going full Serious Sam. This Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun gameplay trailer shows just how much gory carnage your solo marine can inflict.
Like Doom and Doom Eternal, keeping on the move looks to be a bit part of the game. You blast your way through the world of Scour Graia, killing anything that moves, as is the Imperium’s way.
It sports a retro-aesthetic, with chunky weapons and enemies that give the impression of being sprites. And there’s blood – lots and lots and lots of blood. If you’ve played Brutal Doom, the gory fan-made mod for iD Software’s original shooter, you’ll be right at home.
What has us grinning in particular, is that you can charge enemies off bridges, launching them into the abyss. We’re assuming this technique won’t work with bosses but we’ll absolutely be putting it to good use. As any Star Wars Jedi: Survivor player knows, gravity can be one hell of an ally.
Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun arrives on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC this May 23rd. You can check out the trailer above and wishlist/pre-order it right now on Steam.
