According to the Los Angeles City Tourism Board of Commissioners, E3 2024 and E3 2025 have been cancelled.
Update 23/06/2023 15:13 BST: Replying to an enquiry from GamesIndustry.Biz, the ESA has stated they are “..currently having conversations about E3 2024.. no final decisions about the event have been made at this time.”
As spotted by gaming tweetmeister @Wario64, the board has recorded E3 2024 and E3 2025 having been nixed, at least as far as the City of Los Angeles is concerned. E3 2023 was set to be the first in-person E3 since 2019. However, it was cancelled, leaving the future of the event uncertain.
Does that mean there won’t be an E3 2024 or E3 2025? That may well be the case and some people have been questioning the relevance of the event. The news comes from the minutes of a June 21st LA tourism board meeting, which you can find here.
There’s no other mention of E3, just the phrase “Includes E3 cancellations for 2024 & 2025”, attached to a table. But given that this an official body it’s almost certain that E3 won’t be happening in LA.
There could still be an online-only event or a physical event taking place in another city. However, with Summer Game Fest all but taking over, that seems a little unlikely. There’s been no comment as yet from organiser ReedPop or the Entertainment Software Association.
Their most recent word on E3 was that organisers were going to “re-evaluate the future of E3.” And, based on this revelation, it’s not looking good for the event.
