Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged Races Out This October

Hot Wheels Unleashed 2

Toy racer Hot Wheels Unleashed is back in the shape of Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged. And it’s going to have..  a story mode?

Yes, that’s just one of the upcoming additions that Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 will sport. It’ll feature four characters though what Milestone and Mattel haven’t said is whether they’ll be tiny, tiny imaginary racers or just kids who want to mess around with Hot Wheels toys.

We have our fingers crossed with the latter. Sure, Micro Machines had Violet Berlin and friends but framing the game as a competition between real kids seems like a more interesting idea. You could, potentially, have the kids wandering around the side of the track but the more we think about that the more terrifying it seems.

So what else is on the cards? We haven’t seen any actual in-game footage as yet, the trailer is pretty clearly pre-rendered, cool as it is. But there’ll be all new mechanics, including a jump button.

We’re pretty excited to hear about that one since, if we’re reading this right, it’ll let you jump at any time. You could, potentially, create your own shortcut if you launch yourself off the track and land on a lower piece. Though we can also see how, if that’s genuinely the case, some players might find that unfair.

Split-screen is back, which we’re happy to hear since couch co-op is often overlooked. It’ll launch with 130 vehicles, which should be plenty to play with. That said, you can also count on there being all sorts of DLC cards as well.

We got a big kick out of the original Hot Wheels Unleashed, awarding it an 8 out of 10. So we hope this sequel will as good if not better. And if you’ve not tried it, the original is currently available on Game Pass.

As for this sequel? It’s set for an October 19th release, landing on PC and consoles.

Weekend Editor // Chris has been gaming since the days of the Acorn Electron, which was allegedly purchased to 'help him with his homework'. You can probably guess how well that went. He’ll tackle most genres – football titles aside – though he has a taste for games that that are post-apocalyptic, horror-oriented or thought provoking in nature.
