With Alan Wake 2 on its way, July’s PlayStation Plus Essentials line-up includes the remastered original, a handy way to catch up on the horror.
The one downside is that, without giving too much away, Alan Wake Remastered ends on a cliffhanger, so you’re going to have to wait for the sequel to (hopefully) tie up the author’s story. But if you’re wondering what all the fuss is about, July’s PlayStation Plus line-up should deliver.
If, on the other hand, you’re after something a little less supernatural, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War takes the series back to the 1980s. As we noted in our review, it doesn’t do anything really revolutionary with the series. But if you’re a CoD fan you’ll be right at home.
The final offering features precisely zero gunplay. Endling: Extinction is Forever cast you as a mother fox looking after her cubs. That might sound adorable but it also has the potential to be genuinely traumatic.
As we put it in our review, “It’s a game that should be played though, as its message is important. Just be ready to have your soul destroyed by the time the credits roll.” So, don’t couple it with a Watership Down watch party.
All three games are available from July 4th till the beginning of August, as both native PS4 and PS5 versions. And don’t forget to check out June’s PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium games.
