Preview: Cosy Life Sim Paleo Pines is a Dino Delight

Paleo Pines

For fans of cosy gaming, the upcoming Paleo Pines ought to be high up on your radar. An adorable farming/life sim absolutely packed with stuff to discover and tasks to do, what sets Paleo Pines apart from its peers is that it’s chock-full of dinosaurs. That’s right: it takes place in an alternate timeline where dinos and humans live side by side.

We’ve had our hands on a preview build of Paleo Pines and instantly, its chunky and colourful visuals got its prehistoric claws in us. This is a lovely-looking game, immediately presenting a world we just can’t wait to be set free within. But you’ll have to hold your horses a little: unlike other games in the genre, Paleo Pines doesn’t just leave you to your own devices. You’re gradually led into all it has to offer and honestly, it’s a refreshing change.

As eager as we were to instantly get digging up our patch of land, planting the seeds we’d been gifted, we found we couldn’t use our hoe to till the land. Instead, we had to wait for a villager to come by and show us the ropes. It means you’re not overwhelmed with mechanics from the outset – which could be the case otherwise. Still, this is a game absolutely stuffed with things to do, and once you get into the swing of things, you’ll find it hard to pull yourself away.

Paleo Pines

Discovery and adventure is at the heart of Paleo Pines. By leaving your ranch, you can head out into the fields, which lead to your nearest town and beyond. In town, there are new faces to meet and people to trade with, along with a notice board where you can grab missions. Outside of town, there are wild dinos for you to learn about and befriend, plants and greenery for you to write about in your journal, and plenty more.

You’ll want to spend plenty of time on your ranch, though. You see, it’s a bit of a mess, and over time, you’ll want to clear the debris, eventually building up something rather special. You’ll start out simply by building vegetable patches, but by making use of the town’s carpenter, you can set about placing new structures, homes for more dinosaurs and more.

Paleo Pines

We simply can’t overlook the dinos in Paleo Pines. To begin with, you’re accompanied only by Lucky, your beautiful sidekick who doubles as your steed. Later, you can befriend more and bring them to your ranch. You can pet them, feed them tasty treats and generally ensure they’re happy by meeting all of their needs.

We’ve only just scratched the surface of what Paleo Pines has to offer. But we’re absolutely stoked to jump in and play more: we just know that this is the sort of game we’re going to lose hours to. And if you’re a fan of life/farming sims, there’s a good chance you will too. We’ll have more about it closer to its release, but for now, ensure it’s on your wish list.

Paleo Pines is coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch and PC on 26th September.
