After launching into Early Access in April, Disney Speedstorm is set for a September free-to-play release.
This Disney racer is a lot of fun and the plan was always for it to be free to play. However, in order to play it in its Early Access phase you had to buy a founder’s pack. This, in turn, cost around £25. Now, this September, Disney Speedstorm will become a full, free-to-play release.
We tackled it back in April, remarking that, “Disney and kart racing fans won’t be disappointed by what it has to offer. But as ever, its potential microtransaction-laden future may be a concern.”
According to developer and publisher Gameloft, they’ve taken on the Early Access feedback and going free-to-play will “allow for more players to share in a fully robust competitive and co-op racing experience”.
We’re currently playing Marvel Snap, another free-to-play and while it does advertise its premium content, we never feel like we’re being punished for not buying it. So we have our fingers crossed that Disney Speedstorm’s final incarnation operates along similar lines.

The final game will be landing on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC. It’s set to arrive this September 28th, with the current Early Access founders packs available from now until then.
