Want bag a console bargain? In the UK, Sony has dropped the price of the PlayStation 5 by £75
That’s the disc-based version of the console, so you can happily play your physical PlayStation 4 games and take advantage of any free upgrades. Normally £479.99, the £75 price drop brings it down to £404.99, which is a bit of a bargain.
Where can you take advantage of this deal? Pretty much anywhere in the UK. There’s no US-equivalent deal but it could be happening later down the line. Multiple UK retailers, from Amazon through to Currys have it on offer. The £404.99 deal is also available from Sony’s own online store, PlayStation Direct.
The deal is set to run until August 10th. Though if you know where to look, there are even better deals to be had. As spotted by IGN UK Deals, you can use the code GAME20 at AO.com. That’ll get you a console and a copy of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart or Demon’s Souls for £389.
These deals are part of Sony’s summer sales and you can bag some other deals too. You can get a DualSense controller for as low as £39.99 and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is £22.99, down from £51.99.
Speaking of Spider-Man, Sony’s Limited Edition Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 PlayStation 5 is currently available to pre-order, though minus any kind of discount. We suspected that some of the Spider-Man 2 faceplates would end up on eBay, post release, but we’re happy to report that Sony is in fact selling them separately.
You can, in theory, turn your regular PS5 into a Spider-Man 2 PS5. The snag is that all the controller and plate pre-orders are sold out. It may be worth waiting around to see if Sony allocates more stock. It beats paying £569.99, that’s for sure.
But one question remains. Should you buy a PlayStation 5? There have been rumblings that Sony is working on a PlayStation 5 Slim and we wouldn’t put it past them to unveil that this Christmas.
So if you pick up a PS5 as a present and sit on it till then, there’s always that risk. But on the other hand, if Sony does unveil the PlayStation 5 Slim there’s no guarantee Sony will have enough stock. It’s also worth remembering that the PlayStation 5 was £449.99, until Sony raised the price.
But right now, if you want to save big on the PlayStation 5, this is a great deal.
