Kādomon: Hyper Auto Battlers Combines Pokémon and Auto Battles

Kādomon: Hyper Auto Battlers

We’ve spent a portion of our morning watching cute little monsters battle it out in front of us. The hands-off approach of auto battler games isn’t for everyone, but there’s something satisfying about watching your colourful team come out on top – even if you haven’t had much input yourself. We’ve been playing Kādomon: Hyper Auto Battlers, a roguelike autobattler coming to PC soon, and we can see ourselves diving back in regularly.

Starting out with just two monsters, you’ll engage in battle, gaining XP as you go. For each successful battle, you’ll get to recruit one of the opposing monsters, adding them to your own roster. With four monsters able to fight at any one time, maybe you’ll want to stick to the same team, getting them as strong as possible. Or maybe you’ll want to keep switching them out for other monsters you’ve got in standby.

Progressing through Kādomon: Hyper Auto Battlers means working your way up a game map not dissimilar to the one found in Slay the Spire. You can choose your route, hopping between battles and random events. Battles make up the vast majority of what’s on offer here, though – and it quickly escalates in difficulty. Random events give you the opportunity to level up your monsters and to add new skills to their roster, and the choices you make are going to matter a lot when it comes to how powerful your team can be.

There are over 100 monsters to capture in Kādomon, each one able to evolve over time and gain new abilities. It seems the key to success is synergising your team by grouping together monsters who can boost each other’s abilities. Like many roguelikes, your success often feels like trial and error in the beginning. But the more you play, the more capable you’ll become – and soon, you’ll be mowing down the boss in no time.

If Kādomon: Hyper Auto Battlers sounds like something you’re interested in, there’s a free demo available right now on Steam. There’s no release date just yet, but it’s coming to PC later this year.
