With Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is a few months away from release, Sony has announced a special edition Spider-Man PlayStation 5.
It was revealed alongside Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s story trailer and, we have to admit, it looks pretty damn cool. But it’s not just a case of slapping a Spider-Man logo onto a PlayStation 5. Instead, this Spider-Man 2 PS5 goes full Venom.
It does feature Spidey’s logo, along with the red of his suit. But you can see the Venom symbiote slowly covering the console, its tendrils snaking over the side (or top) of the machine. Meanwhile, the other side of the machine has already been taken over and is completely black.
There’s also a DualSense controller which has a similar aesthetic, with just a small area of the controller left un-Venomised. Sure, Venom is a hero now but when the symbiote first appeared in the comic, it was not the nicest entity. Peter Parker’s Spider-Man had to fight against its influence and, going by the trailer, he’ll face a similar struggle in the game.
This special edition Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 PS5 will be available to pre-order from next week. Is it worth putting buying a whole new PS5 for? That’s up to you, though it is worth noting that, like all PS5s, this console has removeable console covers.
And, since the design is on those covers, we wouldn’t be surprised if they started appearing on eBay, albeit at inflated prices. You might be able to nab a pair if you’re prepared to pay through the nose.
As for the game itself? You don’t get a boxed copy, just a digital code. But that’s nothing new, previous console bundles have often followed suit. If you want to get your hands on this you can pre-order it from July 28th, via PlayStation Direct.
