Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Isn’t the First Game to Change Spidey’s Symbol

Spider-Man game symbols

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is introducing a new, more angular Spider-Man symbol, but it’s not the first Spider-Man game to change things up.

In fact, every Spider-Man game from the past ten years or so has tweaked Spider-Man’s logo in some fashion. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is just the latest though given that Venom will be figuring into the mix it’s not surprising Insomniac’s symbol is a bit pointier.

That’s not all, either. Arist RockRider has decided to track down every single logo and put them all one single poster, which they’ve tweeted out. Where can you buy this? Sadly, you can’t, not least because Marvel might sue. But it’s a fantastic illustration of how each game and its designers put their own stamp on the symbol.

Sure, the two movie-based games doubtless had to use the movie’s symbol, but there are some big changes going on here. Personally, if Spider-Man asked us to make him a costume we’d draw the most ridiculous, cartoony spider we could, but that’s just us.

Out of all the logos, our favourite is definitely Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3’s. Our least favourite is the Marvel’s Avengers one, mainly because of the circuit-board style look. That said, only PlayStation 4 and 5 owners got to see that logo in-game because Spidey was a PlayStation exclusive.

You can follow artist RockRider on Twitter here. They’ve put out a wealth of other posters which are well worth checking out. As for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, it’s out on PlayStation 5 this 20th October.

Weekend Editor // Chris has been gaming since the days of the Acorn Electron, which was allegedly purchased to 'help him with his homework'. You can probably guess how well that went. He’ll tackle most genres – football titles aside – though he has a taste for games that that are post-apocalyptic, horror-oriented or thought provoking in nature.
