Best Games Like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre game is finally here! Sure, Leatherface turned up in Call of Duty: Warzone and Mortal Kombat X, but Gun Interactive and Sumo Digital’s asymmetrical murder-em-up introduces the whole family. Plus, there are a couple of new additions to the family.

But what if The Texas Chain Saw Massacre has left you with a taste for more raw slasher mayhem, either as victim or villain? The slaughter needn’t stop there. We’ve rounded up the five best games like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre for you to sink your teeth into. Just remember to keep that chainsaw oiled.

1. Dead by Daylight

Dead By Daylight Alien

  • Available on Xbox, PlayStation, PC, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation Plus and Game Pass.

Yes, that’s the Alien from Ridley Scott’s 1979 monster classic, coming to the game the end of August 2023. Released back in 2016, Dead by Daylight has gone from strength to strength, adding new killers and survivors, including a host of guest characters. Want to play as Nicholas Cage, taking on Michael Myers from Halloween? Go right ahead.

Like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre this is an asymmetrical multiplayer game, though in this case it’s 1 slasher vs 4 players. We favour playing as the killer because it’s more fun but you should have a real blast no matter which side you pick. We wouldn’t recommend the Nintendo Switch version, though.

2. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

  • Available on Xbox, PlayStation, PC, and Nintendo Switch (cloud version)

“Welcome to the family, son!” Resident Evil 7 is a single-player game but it clearly takes its cues from the original The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. It’s a welcome departure from the STARS/BSAA antics of the previous game and was just what the series needed. Backwoods Louisiana has never been so creepy.

3. Friday the 13th: The Game

  • Available on Xbox, PlayStation, PC, and Nintendo Switch

Hang on.. Friday the 13th: The Game? Isn’t that shutting down at the end of 2023? It is, but now available a knock-down price of around $5, it’s still worth snapping up. From the publisher of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, there are several ways to play. You can take on other players in asymmetrical Jason vs camp counsellors mode or you can go offline with single-player bots and a mission mode (both added after release).

4. The Quarry

  • Available on PlayStation, Xbox and PC

Are you ready for another encounter with a group of possibly-homicidal rednecks? You don’t have much of a choice in The Quarry, since your camp counsellors are stranded with no means of transport. At least they’re all you’ve got to worry about, there’s nothing worse lurking in the darkness, right?

5. Evil Dead: The Game

Evil Dead The Game Review 2

  • Available on PlayStation, Xbox, PC and Nintendo Switch

It’s the good guys that have this chainsaw in this 4 vs 1 multiplayer game. But they’re still up against hordes of deadites and, playing as the demon, you have the wicked, wicked joy of possessing them, turning them against their allies. Throw in Bruce Campbell as Ash, not some soundalike, and you’ve got a real treat for fans of the series.

Weekend Editor // Chris has been gaming since the days of the Acorn Electron, which was allegedly purchased to 'help him with his homework'. You can probably guess how well that went. He’ll tackle most genres – football titles aside – though he has a taste for games that that are post-apocalyptic, horror-oriented or thought provoking in nature.
