Forget Starfield, Giant Lego Sonic and Dr. Eggman is Gamescom’s Real Winner

Lego Dr. Eggman

Lego’s new Sonic the Hedgehog sets look excellent, but they pale in comparison to this giant Sonic and Dr. Eggman statue.

This magnificent Lego work of art was constructed especially for European gaming event Gamescom 2023. It features a Lego Dr. Eggman and a Lego Sonic the Hedgehog, complete with Lego Chilli Dog.

This isn’t just regular old Lego Dr. Eggman, however. It’s Dr. Eggman seated in his massive Death Egg robot. Does that throw the scale off, compared the ‘normal’ sized Sonic the Hedgehog? Absolutely, but it doesn’t make it any the less awesome.

However, if you’re planning on making your own, it’ll cost you, both in terms of money and time. It’s constructed from over 300,000 bricks and took 1450 hours to build. You can forget your giant £700 Lego Star Wars AT-AT, you’d need a second mortgage to make this one. Still, there’s always the regular Lego Sonic sets.

The models are on display at Sega’s Gamescom booth and will be until tomorrow, August 27th. We’re not at Gamescom (which takes place in Cologne, Germany) but this definitely makes us wish we were. After dark. With a forklift and a big truck.

The good news is that the model will be going on tour, through Sega has yet to confirm just where. Sure, a lot of people were talking about Starfield’s Gamescom 2023 appearance but for us, this steals the show. Maybe if Bethesda had brought a Lego Todd Howard…

Weekend Editor // Chris has been gaming since the days of the Acorn Electron, which was allegedly purchased to 'help him with his homework'. You can probably guess how well that went. He’ll tackle most genres – football titles aside – though he has a taste for games that that are post-apocalyptic, horror-oriented or thought provoking in nature.
