Tekken 8’s Getting a Brand New Character: Azucena

Tekken 8 Azucena

Bandai Namco hasn’t yet given us a firm release date for Tekken 8. But it’s on the way. And the latest trailer reveals a brand new character to enter its roster: “Coffee Queen” Azucena.

Hailing from Peru, the latest Tekken 8 character, Azucena, is a young MMA fighter – and heir to the Ortiz family’s Peruvian coffee plantation. So you know where she’s getting all her kick-ass energy from. She’s apparently joined the King of Iron Fist Tournament to promote the Ortiz’ coffee farm – a rather guerrilla form of marketing if you ask us, but hey, if she’s good, we’re not going to complain.

Azucena’s fighting style is a combination of mixed martial arts and more, er, unconventional techniques, shall we say. One of her signature moves is the ‘Liberador’: a stance that doesn’t block opponents’ attacks but instead dodges them based on instinct.

You can check out Azucena in action in the latest Tekken 8 trailer below. Not only does it feature the coffee queen herself, but lots of Alpacas too. She is from Peru, after all. Watching her in action, she’s fast, spritely, and has some rather excellent kick-based abilities.

Along with the announcement of Azucena, Bandai Namco has also revealed that Raven will be making a return to the franchise in Tekken 8, too. He’s a secret intelligence agent working for the UN, and he’s bringing some heavy power to the roster. Check him out in action below:

It’s a busy day for fighting game fans: we’ve also had a new trailer for Mortal Kombat 1, revealing three brand new fighters. And if you’re a Street Fighter 6 player, you might be interested to know that a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossover is landing tomorrow.
