Set for release on 3rd November, or 31st October for those who preorder, EA Sports WRC aims to be the biggest and most authentic rally game yet.
Developed by Codemasters, this is effectively the next DiRT Rally. Thanks to acquiring the WRC license, however, the studio has been able to take things to the next level. While there are some elements of EA Sports WRC that we can’t talk about yet, a preview of the game has outlined a number of key features and content that leads us to believe this will be an absolute treat for rally fans. And it aims to have a gentler learning curve to make it welcoming for newcomers, too.
EA Sports WRC will feature all 13 locations of the official WRC 2023 season, as well as five bonus locations. 17 of those locations will be available at launch, but one location, Central Europe, will be delivered post-launch via an update. Aside from the locations covered in snow, all will have four variations based on the season as well. The included locations are:
- Portugal
- Sardinia
- Kenya
- Monte Carlo
- Sweden
- Croatia
- Estonia
- Finland
- Greece
- Mexico
- Japan
- Chile
- Oceania
- Iberia
- Scandia
- Pacific
- Mediterraneo
- Central Europe
Within these locations, EA Sports WRC will feature the longest stages yet, challenging players to push themselves to the limit. Even better, its stages are based on reality, with satellite data being used to provide real roads. In fact, in some stages you’ll be driving the exact same route as real-life rally drivers. You can’t get more authentic than that.
In terms of vehicles, EA Sports WRC will offer 10 official competition vehicles across WRC, WRC 2 and Junior WRC. On top of that, there are 68 historic vehicles. These include more recent vehicles from classes such as Super 2000, Group A and F2 Kit Car, as well as older classics from between the 60s and 80s, such as Group B.
All in all, when you also factor in improvements to the game’s handling model, which builds on the great gravel and snow handling from DiRT Rally 2.0 and totally reworks how the game feels on tarmac, you have a game that we simply can’t wait to get our hands on. We’ll have more on EA Sports WRC soon.
