Games to Watch Out For This September

Wondering what games are out this September? We’ve got you covered. And, unsurprisingly, it’s a very busy month. Alongside one of the most anticipated launches of the year – Starfield – we’ve got dozens of great-looking indie games and other AAA releases to fill our time.

As always, you won’t find every game launching in September below. We’ve highlighted the ones you ought to pay attention to, though. Stay tuned on GameSpew throughout September to find coverage on everything releasing this month.

Baldur’s Gate 3

It’s already out on PC, but the excellent Baldur’s Gate 3 is making its way to PS5 this September. For those of us who have been waiting to enjoy this epic RPG on console, the time is almost here – and we can’t wait.

Starfield

Perhaps the biggest release of the year – or at least up there amongst them – Bethesda’s Starfield is almost upon us. Opt for a fancy edition of the game and you’ll get early access, letting you play from 1st September. Standard edition owners (or Game Pass players) can jump in from 6th September. Either way, we’re looking forward to exploring the galaxy.

Are you a basketball fan? This year’s annual NBA entry from 2K is almost upon us, bringing the latest players and teams to our PCs and consoles.

Fae Farm

Fancy a farming sim with a magical twist? If you’re a fan of cosy games, Fae Farm should be high up on your must-have list for games releasing this September. This adorable adventure throws you into a new town, with a farm to build up, villagers to help, and a mysterious story to uncover.

The Isle Tide Hotel

Are you a fan of FMV games? If so, you’re going to want to have The Isle Tide Hotel on your radar. The latest full-motion videogame from Wales Interactive throws players into the middle of a mysterious story involving a cult and plenty of strange goings-on.

Nour: Play With Your Food

Honestly, we don’t know a great deal about Nour: Play With Your Food. It’s a sandbox all about doing crazy stuff with delicious-looking food, and that’s about all we need to know, really. We just know we’re going to get really hungry while playing.

Eternights

Eternights is an action game about dating set in the apocalypse. Yes, we’re as mystified by that description as you are, but it’s only made us more eager to jump in. Look out for coverage from us in the run-up to launch.

Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster

Fancy jumping into a classic adventure? Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster bundles together the original Baten Kaitos games – Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean and Origins – in one collection. Whether you’re a newcomer or a longtime fan of the franchise, it promises to be worth jumping into.

The Crew Motorfest

The third entry into Ubisoft’s open world racing game series looks to be the best yet. The Crew Motorfest promises a wealth of cars and events for players to dive into, as you take part in a motor festival. Hmm, sounds familiar: Forza Horizon, anyone? Still, we love arcade racers, and we’re looking forward to jumping into this.

Mortal Kombat 1

We’re just a couple of weeks away from Mortal Kombat 1. Don’t let the 1 in the title fool you: it’s very much a new entry in Netherrealms’ long-running fighting game series, but it marks a new start. You can read more about the game in our preview here, but needless to say it’s going to be a must-play if you’re a fan of FATALITIES.

AK-Xolotl

An axolotl with an AK-47? Sign us right up. This twin-stick shooter might be the perfect blend of cute and gory, and we can’t wait to unleash chaos when it releases on 14th September.

Ad Infinitum

Ad Infinitum is another game that we don’t know a great deal about, but it has us seriously intrigued. It’s a psychological horror game set in the trenches of World War I. That’s already a pretty terrifying place to be, then, but it seems like our German soldier protagonist has their own horrors to deal with, too.

Payday 3

It’s almost time to rob some banks. Payday 3 is the third entry into the multiplayer heist simulator series, letting players team up, mask up and crack some safes. If you’ve got some friends to play with, this promises to be great fun.

Lies of P

Lies of P is one for Soulslike fans. Telling the story of Pinocchio like you’ve never heard it before, Lies of P casts you as a puppet equipped with weapons ready to go up against the horrors of the dark city you find yourself in. You can find out more about the game by reading our preview here.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty

If you’ve been waiting to play, or looking for an excuse to jump back in, 26th September seems like a jolly good time to play Cyberpunk 2077. The Phantom Liberty DLC adds a wealth of new content, including new story and missions. It also brings with it a big, free update to the game, set to make it better than ever.

Infinity Strash: Dragon Quest The Adventure of Dai

It’s time for a new Dragon Quest adventure, don’t you think? Its title might be a bit of a mouthful but Infinity Strash: Dragon Quest The Adventure of Dai promises an exhilarating action RPG based on the anime of the same name.

EA Sports FC 24

EA’s annual FIFA series is no more, with the publisher no longer owning the rights to use the FIFA license. That’s not going to stop EA Sports making a football game, though, and so this year marks the first ever EA Sports FC 24. You can still expect licensed teams, player names, brands and more.
