After a run of two excellent South Park games, we fear the streak may be coming to an end.
A gameplay trailer has finally been released for South Park: Snow Day, the latest game in the crude franchise currently in development by Question Games and set to be published by THQ Nordic. Like The Stick of Truth and The Fractured But Whole before it, it’s set to cast players as the New Kid, joining Cartman and co. who are engaged in a fantastical battle across the town. That’s about as much as South Park: Snow Day seems to share with its Ubisoft published predecessors, however.
The wonderful 2D art of The Stick of Truth and The Fractured But Whole, which captured the essence of the series perfectly, has been thrown out of the window in favour of 3D. As you’ll see in the trailer below, it means that South Park: Snow Day just hasn’t got the same charm. The gameplay has been changed, too. It’s now a third person action game focused around co-op play. You can play it alone if you wish, but when doing so you’ll apparently be accompanied by bots.
Anyway, give the South Park: Snow Day gameplay trailer a watch below. It doesn’t look all that promising to us, but we’ll reserve judgment until the game is in our hands. It might provide a few hours of fun when played in co-op at least, trying to save South Park from the deluge of snow while developing your New Kid and customising them as you see fit. At £24.99/$29.99, it’s going to be budget priced, too, which somewhat softens the blow.
South Park: Snow Day will launch in 2024 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch and PC
